Obama’s DNC Winter Meeting Speech

February 2nd, 2007 at 10:14 am, 55 months ago

Obama started out his speech thanking Governor Howard Dean for the win in November. Interestingly enough, this is the first time I have ever heard of someone actually thanking the DNC for it.

He mentioned something that I found amusing. He mentioned American Idol and Survivor. He knows that he has that Rockstar aura around him, so he went on saying things like we shouldn’t base our decisions on “who goes to Hollywood or who gets voted off of the island.”

He mentioned that many of the decisions that the president and the republican congress has done over the past years have been ignored by the Americas.

This has brought this country to a sobering state.

He said that the decisions made in the next decade will become a problem for our children and grandchildren.

He said that it isn’t the time to play for the cameras, but the play for our future.

Obama went on that we are not fighting one another, and the challenger “won’t even be the other party.” We are fighting against cynicism.

We need hope.

He went on about how people want to see whitepapers and exact answers, but he said that there have been those things and it has never inspired hope.

Obama wants the entire country to have full healthcare by the end of the next President’s first term.

More to come soon…

A Busy Week, Oh God a Busy Week

I have a (max) 10 page (double spaced) paper due on Thursday that I have barely started on. I have election weekend and election day a week from tomorrow (tuesday.)

Oh, AND I HAVE A TEST 2 DAYS AFTER THE ELECTION

I want to rip my fucking head off. School is more important so I have to finish this paper before I can do campaign shit. I am taking off Friday afternoon up until and through election day doing gods-know-what.

It is Sunday Night and even though I woke up at noon, I am still exhausted.

I was out walking for a few hours yesterday for the Doyle camp. Now I am all for walking, but doing it for hours and hours isn’t exactly my idea of fun. After I got back having no energy at all I got some dinner and a few hours later fell asleep.

I have no friends in town. Everybody is out of town for college. I’m afraid to make too many friends here in Milwaukee when I know I won’t see them for more than a few months until I get back to Loyola.

I am trying to keep myself occupied, watching a lot of TV on my computer and drinking at lot of this new Coke Zero (Diet Coca-Cola Classic, Diet Coke is not a diet form of Classic)

And listening to a lot of music. Lately I have been listening to Wilco. Great band that I am surprised I had not heard of but only a few months ago.

I recommend voting

I recommend voting this fall. Especially if there is a hotly-contested governor’s race in your state. Vote democratic. I know I am.
Wisconsin is a great state. If you are away, absentee ballots are easy to come by.
Email me at nickcatal@gmail.com if you want more info.
Volunteer for your local governor’s race. Volunteer. Putting up a yard sign is not a volunteer effort, they actually don’t translate into any more votes for your candidate compared to their cost. Actually ask to volunteer. Then you’re helping get votes!

And please go to events if you are asked to. The press likes to see people at events. That isn’t volunteer work either, but it is nice.

Today is election day here in Wisconsin. I voted. Lets see how that works out.

I am watching the show Weeds now. I’ve seen the entire first season and the second is 5 episodes in. Great show that has me smiling throughout. Grab the DVD of the 1st Season.
