I want to go to Alaska

I keep watching the Sarah Palin coverage and I have to admit the shitshow is becoming is more and more entertaining as the days go by.

And I have come to one conclusion: I really want to go to Alaska

I mean, Alaska. Where you can shoot guns (hell yeah!) and eat moose (less hell yeah, unless you can kill em with big guns, then hell yeah!)

The weather sucks, and it costs a bit to go there, but where else can you go where the governor of a state with one of the highest incidences of race and incest wanting to charge women who are raped for the rape kits. A governor who is running for vice president and will have Air Force Two on constant alert to go back to Alaska in the event of the rapture.

I don’t know, but I know Alaska is that state. And Palin is that governor.

I made the biggest mistake of my 21 year life

I was in Denver this previous weekend and decided to leave on Tuesday… I had school and didn’t want to pay too much on housing. I had an HDTV, and thought watching Obama’s speech in HD would be just as good if not better than just being there in person.

Now I’ve fucked up BIG many, many, MANY times in my life. Hell, if you just Google “Nick4753“, “NickCatal” or “Nick Catalano” you will find more than enough evidence of my screwups.

Oh, I’ve made big mistakes in my 21 years on earth.

But coming back on Tuesday is by far the biggest one. Staying away from this convention, from that stadium last Thursday, when I had an easy way to stay longer and people who would support me if I wanted to, was a horrible idea.

An absolutely horrible idea.

And I’ll regret it for quite awhile.

Go Obama!

Airtran Sucks

July 29th, 2007 at 1:14 pm, 40 months ago

I am currently in Atlanta, Georgia waiting for a flight to Milwaukee. It isn’t the flight I was suppose to be on… nope… my previous flight from Charlotte was delayed 45 minutes.

Lets go back to this past Thursday. The flight I took FROM Milwaukee was late too because the Pilot decided it was easier to just sit back than take off his 717 in the rain. Fedex’s 747 didn’t have much of an issue. Neither did an American Airlines plane. Or a Delta plane… So instead of having the front place in line, we went to the back of the line… and waited.

So our plane came in late, and came up to the terminal a few minutes after my connecting flight to Charlotte was to leave. Thank GOD that, get this, The Plane I was Transferring To Was Delayed so they managed to put me on that flight.

Oh, and the seats…. The seats on Airtran are the most uncomfortable things I have ever been in my life. I’m fine with coach seats, but these things feel like cardboard, there is no legroom, and I swear even a skinny person would feel scrunched.

Oh, and their “great” feature is that they have XM radio in every seat. When it works….

So OK, I’m never flying Airtran again. Well, I hope I won’t be. See, Airtran is trying to take over Midwest Airlines in Milwaukee. Hostile-takeover style. Milwaukee people don’t like this very much…

Here is something that you need to know about Midwest Airlines, it KICKS ASS. Comfortable seats (even their “budget” runs are great,) Milwaukee’s very own Altera coffee (yum,) and fresh baked chocolate chip cookies made on all afternoon-evening flights. The cookie thing sounds like a gimmick (and it is) but the cookies are great when you are exhausted from traveling. After packing, finding a ride to the airport, check baggage, security, expensive water/drinks, waiting for plane, in line to get on the plane it is amazing.

All of this is gone (well, they said they may keep the cookies just to prevent pissed-off Milwaukee people from attacking the plane crew) if that takeover happens.

If Milwaukee needs “budget” airlines we need Jet Blue, Southwest and maybe even Virgin America (pipe dream.) Those are companies that KNOW how to run a budget airline! Southwest is profitable (unlike Airtran,) the seats are way more comfortable, and the entire experience is so much better. Jet Blue’s president pulls out ads in big papers apologizing to customers when his company royally fucks up. Oh, and Jet Blue has XM too, because it has DirecTV IN EVERY SEAT (Virgin America is going to kick its ass though.)

And leave Midwest alone for christ’s sake…

At the Apple Store

July 3rd, 2007 at 3:23 pm, 42 months ago

I am currently typing on a 30″ display at the Apple Store here in Bayshore.

Now I have a few opinions here about the wonderful Apple store: They really know how to build a store that centers around all of (roughly) 20-30 major variations of 7ish products (Mac Pro, MacBook, MacBook Pro, iPod, iPhone, AppleTV, and accessories)

They decided to just keep it open. Really open. I can throw a football from one side of this store to the other (and out the door for that matter) and odds are even with a bad throw I wouldn’t hit much.

And I’m sure it works quite well for them.

In other news, my desktop is out of commission. I tried to install Vista and something went wrong and now one of my hard drives has a partition missing and the it won’t boot into my primary partition unless I manually select to go to that hard drive.

I’ve been up all day with this crap.

Oh, I have my job back. Well, I just took on hours (it isn’t like I was “on” or “off” payroll, or have any benefits attached) for the valet thing. Working alone tonight so if a manual comes in I’m just parking it out front of the steakhouse. I need to be over there in 20 minutes, so I will have to find something to do for the next 20 minutes.

In retrospect, I wouldn’t be nuts about having a job here. Answering the same damn questions over and over again. Well, maybe a creative or genius, but as a general retail employee… bah.

I was a little harsh… the iPhone really kicks ass

July 3rd, 2007 at 6:33 am, 42 months ago

I posted yesterday about how I think the iPhone sucks. Once I have had a moment to think it over, it really doesn’t.

It is just a first generation product.

Once the iPhone has full IMAP ( iMap, hehe ) support, J2EE apps can be written for it, it has some form of reasonable 3G usage, a few more gigs of storage and I won’t to be stuck with a 2 year plan to use the thing I will most likely buy it. Actually, I’m almost positive I will buy it.

Too bad it is still on the Cingular/AT&T network. They don’t have the best coverage in a few buildings in Chicago that I really need to have coverage in.

I should call them up and say “Get coverage in here!”
That will solve it :)
