Wait… What? Sarah Palin? Really?

August 31st, 2008 at 10:43 pm, 7 months ago

Now I’m not going to wish John McCain doom and gloom. But this is a 73 72 year old cancer survivor. Do you really want Sarah Palin being a heartbeat away from being president? Seriously?

I mean, I’ll come out and say it. This is NOT a threat or prediction about the future. I am not wishing anything, nor do I have any plans. I hope it NEVER becomes an issue, but really: There is a small but very real chance that McCain will DIE in office, be it by assassination or health issues. I’m not saying that he is going to get assassinated, god I hope that is not true, but a good amount of presidents have had very real attempts against their lives, including George W Bush. And I’m not saying he is sick, because there is no proof of that.

Lets not forget the chance that he will be removed from office or resigns, a la Nixon.

Pure numbers state that there is a small but very real chance that this lady will become president.

During a time of 2 wars and an economic downturn.

That is VERY scary to me.

Now McCain is qualified to be president. He is the wrong choice, but he is qualified. This lady is not.

I made the biggest mistake of my 21 year life

August 31st, 2008 at 5:01 am, 7 months ago

I was in Denver this previous weekend and decided to leave on Tuesday… I had school and didn’t want to pay too much on housing. I had an HDTV, and thought watching Obama’s speech in HD would be just as good if not better than just being there in person.

Now I’ve fucked up BIG many, many, MANY times in my life. Hell, if you just Google “Nick4753“, “NickCatal” or “Nick Catalano” you will find more than enough evidence of my screwups.

Oh, I’ve made big mistakes in my 21 years on earth.

But coming back on Tuesday is by far the biggest one. Staying away from this convention, from that stadium last Thursday, when I had an easy way to stay longer and people who would support me if I wanted to, was a horrible idea.

An absolutely horrible idea.

And I’ll regret it for quite awhile.

Go Obama!

Loyola Labor Day Fireworks

August 31st, 2008 at 12:21 am, 7 months ago

I was just outside a few hours ago and watched as Loyola put on a Fireworks display to celebrate Labor Day. It was shot off from the top of the parking garage.

Of course, I didn’t know about it until I heard some explosions out my window. At first I thought “What the hell”, then I thought “Is someone attacking Loyola”, then I thought “Why Loyola?” until I finally figured out “Oh, Fireworks”

See I knew there was a picnic this weekend, but it wasn’t until I went outside this evening to go to Target and OfficeMax to get some school supplies that I noticed that it was tonight. So I meandered over to grab a burger and some chips and after meeting a roommate I had back in 2006 and speaking with him for awhile I made my way to get supplies. As I got back I noticed that the games they had set up were gone but there were still people sitting at the tables enjoying conversation with others.

I took the supplies into my room and after hearing the explosions out my window I ran out the back of the building and made my way to find a good spot to watch the show. It was… impressive. And seemed to last a good 20 minutes.

It appeared that it was sponsored by EVOKE, an organization that is a “campus-wide initiative to help students, faculty, and staff explore and deepen their understandings of their ‘callings.’” Thankfully, this organization is almost exclusively funded by grants and other gifts, so I am pretty sure none (or very little) student activity funds went into the fireworks shindig. If the entire thing was paid for by student funds I would be rather pissed, but hey… free food and fireworks paid for by someone else… I can live with that.

Howard Dean on The Daily Show from Denver

August 27th, 2008 at 10:48 pm, 7 months ago

Alright, the guest tonight on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart was DNC Chairman Howard Dean. And there was a significant delay between the Pepsi Center and Stewart’s set.

Only thing is, Stewart is filming at the University of Denver, 8 MILES AWAY

Now there is a bunch of security around the Pepsi Center… Like 4 layers of security, security… But he is the fucking DNC Chairman and they own that town. They have the security so tied up out there he could have a federal escort to the Daily Show set and back in 10 minutes…

Doesn’t make any sense to me.

Another Year, Another CDA Convention

August 22nd, 2008 at 12:05 am, 8 months ago

I am making my way out to the College Democrats of America convention today in Denver. Which is going to be cool.

They want me to dress up in ‘business attire’ during this weekend.

Why? I’m not running for anything and I don’t represent anyone. I’m only going because I have fun at these things and having fun doesn’t involve me getting decked out with 4 layers of clothing.

Basically, it’s vacation. I’m all for taking this seriously, and other people can have a great time doing that, but I’m wearing t-shirts. I have a suit that is coming along, but it’s going to be t-shirts.

I think I have said this exactly same thing for the last 2 years. And not once has not dressing up come back to bite me.

Should be a fun time though. I always look forward to these things.
