Next Time Don’t Hotlink

December 20th, 2007 at 7:26 pm, 28 months ago

I useto host some media for a website that was dedicated to the television show Family Guy. It had a bunch of stuff like an X rated scene that was animated but removed from the show, along with some other stuff by the creator Seth MacFarlane.

Of course, the site that pointed to all the media closed down after the webmaster decided he did not like the show any more… the domain expired and that was that.

Until I realized that people were direct-linking to the media that I was hosting (commonly referred to as ‘hotlinking’.) “Check this clip out” on forums all over. Well, that was no good. So I decided to just point everyone to my blog.

So now I have a bunch of people visiting this site that have no idea what the hell is going on. Spiffy…

I Am Legend- Will Smith: You Amaze Me

I went out to see the new Will Smith movie I Am Legend. Let me say something: Wow.

Two things really stand out here. First off is how New York looks. The filmmakers managed to suspend disbelief in their depiction of a post apocalyptic city.

Second would have to be Smith’s performance. It isn’t something that will garner an Oscar (the movie isn’t good enough to deserve the words ‘Academy Award Winner’ on the DVD box) but… wow.

My Rental Demands

December 19th, 2007 at 12:43 am, 28 months ago

My lease on my current apartment ends on May 31st, 2008. Cool. Now, the building management company wants to know if I intend on extending my lease or not. Now currently I pay $663/month and that includes all utilities. The studio is pretty damn spacious and I wouldn’t be TOO nuts about moving, but I’m more than willing to if the building doesn’t meet my demands. They are as follows:

a) As studios in the building are being advertised for as low as $600/month on Craigslist reduce my rent to $630/month including all utilities
b) Waive any in-window air conditioning
c) Either forward the front door buzzer to my 414-area-code cell phone or pay for some way for me to buzz people in without having to pay for land-line service

Also on the list is that I would prefer that they allow RCN Cable to come into the building, although if they meet those demands I’m not going to be too bent out of shape if that doesn’t happen (RCN is more than happy to come in at no charge, all the building owner has to do is call them and say that it is OK.)

Once I know if they accept that offer, I’ll know that I am going to stick around for the summer. Otherwise, I start out in January looking for a new place to live on June 1st.

Yay! New Keyboard

December 16th, 2007 at 1:41 pm, 28 months ago

I am sitting in the Apple Store watching one of the staff members give an overview of GarageBand (Apple’s music making application.)

I don’t see who exactly he is giving a lecture to, I guess me, but perhaps to someone else that he thinks exists around me.

I am going home tomorrow night. I should probably get back and clean up the apartment a bit. Or perhaps I will just try to get some more sleep.

At least I have the laptop back. Thank god!

My Precious

December 16th, 2007 at 2:17 am, 28 months ago

The ‘Apple’ key on my MacBook Pro popped off and broke and the M and N keys had their paint rubbing off so I decided to take it to the Apple Store to see if they would be able to help me out.

I was running about 20 minutes late past my appointment because of the buses being stuck in snow and holiday shoppers (literally, a few buses had gotten in accidents last night) but, as usual, the apple store was running behind schedule handling technical support so I somewhat lucked out.

So I went up to the ‘Genius Bar’ and told them that my key had broken off and the keys were rubbing off and asked for a new keyboard. And the guy comes right out and says “OK, we can do that”

Turns out they had a MacBook Pro keyboard sitting in the back and they said they would just replace the keyboard for me… free of charge.

I could have survived with a few replacement keys (which they have) but I’m not going to say no to a new keyboard if they have one already in stock.

So I’m without a laptop for a few days, but I DO get a brand new keyboard (a $99 value) out of the wait. Thank god I have this desktop and the ability to stick around campus for a few more days otherwise I would be somewhat SOL. I have plans to get together with friends on Tuesday evening, so hopefully I have the laptop back by then.
