Wii and Playstation 3 Demo

I went to EBGames and Best Buy today (conveniently in the same complex) to test the Nintendo Wii at EBGames and the Sony Playstation 3 at Bestbuy.

I first went to EBGames, where they had a working Wii demo. The only game they were showing was Excite Truck, a pretty standard racing game. You don’t use the controller like you see in a lot of other games (think of taking your TV remote and turning it 90 degrees, then tilting it back and forth to steer, it is like that) and the nunchuck controller wasn’t to be found. Was still a nice view of the new system. I was impressed with the speaker in the controller, it really added to the realism of the game.

The door of BestBuy was lined with people waiting to buy the system, most of which are obviously only there so that they can resell the system for a quick $$$. When I went in to check out their in store demo of the Playstation 3 I was in awe of the stunning graphics. But the eye candy was really the only improvement I could see from the short time I played it. Honestly I could probably get the same user experience with the Playstation 2. I don’t play Sony or Microsoft consoles and when I pick up a Nintendo controller it is usually for Zelda or Mario.

I doubt BestBuy will get another shipment of PS3s in anytime soon, but I do expect EBGames to get some new Wiis in over the coming weeks. Nintendo promises to ship a ton of these things before Christmas.

Or I could save the $360+tax and spend it on other things. Like Christmas gifts. Which could include a Nintendo Wii. For the family, of course.

Nintendo Wii and a Laptop

I am thinking of buying a Nintendo Wii.

I figure with Zelda I am looking at $300+tax and if I want another controller it will be $365+tax.

Only thing is, when I go back to Loyola I won’t have a big enough TV to play it on.

Hmm.

I am going to be getting another student loan to get a laptop. Right now it is looking like I will get an Apple MacBook Pro. I will put Windows XP on it right away. Hmm. $2700 for a laptop is… hmm.
