Whitefish High School Democrats

Some referendum was put on a non-partisan ballot a few weeks ago. Should America pull out from Iraq. It passed. Everyone thinks Whitefish Bay, an affluent suburb, is conservative. It passed here.

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. I co-founded the Whitefish Bay High School Democrats, which was the largest in the state (or so we said, we couldn’t find evidence otherwise.) Lets go over the story of The Whitefish Bay High School Democrats: I founded it with some guy that never seems to let me go on with my life, making this site his daily humor. Well, we just sort of say we co-founded it, I had the same idea he did at the same exact time, it was just a race to the activities director. He got there first, but just before me. He got elected president, I was made executive, but I did more for that group than for anyone else. I did more organizing than him anyways. His uncle is Russ Feingold, my political hero. I guess a family tree is never perfect.

I remember a time when there was some rally at one of the parks right next to the high school and my house. It was put on by some lady who wanted it to be some small thing, then it ballooned into a ton of people. The event had about 500 people at it. I set most of it up, and the main lady, so enthralled with the overflow of people, was very busy. She came over to me and told me that she didn’t want to see me up on the stage. Fair enough, I thought at the time. It would be complex. Then I did something irrational (but I in retrospect loved): when there was a big problem finding room for people I went up to the mic (on a platform I believe I helped arrange, in front of my own lights, behind which was a room that I helped setup) and said that there was new handicap location. I was up there anyways, I figured I decided to say a few words about the High School Democrats, focus on how Whitefish Bay had the largest one in the state. The lady was nowhere to be found, and she wouldn’t do anything if I was on stage grandstanding anyways. It wouldn’t look very good if she ran at me and tackled me when I was in front of everyone. I was done saying my part and saw this “Co-Founder” up to say a few words, not prompted by anything other than my very public, very loud, invite. He stumbled over his words, evidently impromptu not forewarned speeches in front of hundreds of people wasn’t his strong point. I forget what he said, I started worrying about the people with disabilities getting their view, and seats put out for the older people. It was a few minutes later that the lady who was running the event came by, put her hand on my shoulder, and told me in a very stern voice that I was not to go on that podium again, that it was inappropriate and I was told NOT to do it beforehand. I first felt very sorry, then when she was left I smirked a little bit. Well, until the co-founder came by, crying about how she had said something to him and I had invited him up. Get the fuck over it, it was a great PR move and people liked it. Hell, the field director from the Kerry campaign noticed us for the first time by the speech. I ended up telling him how sorry I was and he refused to talk with me for a few days, which was a hindrance to actually doing anything. I told him “I’m sorry” over and over again. I was, I shouldn’t have put him in that situation. But afterwards, I wish he would have fucking manned up.

I felt many times that we were the only group at the high school that did anything. Well, I did most of it while the “president” was off doing his thing elsewhere. His uncle’s campaign, probably. We got T-Shirts, we talked stuff, and I got people out to canvass with the campaign. I remember doing a raffle to give away some tickets I got to various Kerry events. I know a few people got very exclusive tickets to very inclusive events. We were in the back of it, but everyone was content in seeing Kerry speak.

So, Mr. Backer, next time you read this as humor, read this one thing: FUCK YOU.
