Windows XP Installer Running on a Mac?
I have been intrigued by the “Boot Windows XP on an Intel Mac” contest for a few weeks now. Not everyone is happy with the guy who is running it (opening other sites, adding advertisements (which probably don’t cover his hosting costs,) etc) and I can’t say that I don’t agree with many of the detractors. Nevertheless, a few weeks ago I did donate $3 and got my link on his site.
So now that I have a monetary connection to the project (albeit a rather small one) I find myself checking the contest website for news. Turns out someone got the Windows XP installer to run by doing some sort of plugin for the bootloader. The problem here is that the person who did it didn’t post any information about how exactly he did it, something that may be caused because he wants to win the prize. (a theory previously discussed on osx86project.org) This is a rather large, complex, project going on here. One that could be aided by additional assistance from others, but since everyone wants their $12k I would be somewhat amazed if there is a working solution before the deadline.
I could be wrong. With the MacBook Pros shipping there is going to be a very large group of very experienced people who didn’t want to invest in an Intel iMac just to find themselves stuck or have the prize money taken away by someone else.
Do I think someone will figure it out? Yes. While there is prize money? Doubtful.
Hopefully before I get mine (circa end of the summer, before school starts.)
