My new MacBook Pro- $2680.13

January 22nd, 2006 at 11:08 pm, 3 years ago

Alright… I’m officially saving for something. I have made the decision to buy a 1.83 Ghz MacBook Pro by the start of my Sophomore year. The total cost (after taxes & extended warranty): $2680.13. I figure I am probably half way there if you count up all the money the bank is kicking back to me from my student loans (plus the little money I have in savings.) I intend on getting a job this semester and summer… As more and more of my friends, not to mention my sister, get macs and now that there are Intel Apple Notebooks I am ready to take the plunge and pick one up. OS X is such a beautiful operating system, and the design of the 15 inch Powerbooks make it an obvious choice. Until then, I can chug along with my (kick ass) AMD Athlon 64 3000+/1GB DDR/ATI 9600PRO Desktop and Dell 1.0Ghz Celeron laptop with 512 megs of ram (the max it will hold,) 2 high power batteries (offmarket high power batteries are great) and a Dell Truwireless card.

Rocko’s Modern Life

January 22nd, 2006 at 10:55 pm, 3 years ago

One thing that has been bugging my lately is the fact that I can’t find Rocko’s Modern Life episodes anywhere. They don’t offer them on DVD and there is nothing across the P2P networks. They don’t show it on Nickelodeon anymore (at least not the analog version that I have access to)… It was a good show. Damn.

Long Time Reader, First Time Poster (sorta…)

January 22nd, 2006 at 10:49 pm, 3 years ago

Look at me… some 3 weeks and I have barely touched the site! In fact, there are only 2 entries for 2006, and the first month is almost done! Well, we’ll have to change that. This year I am going to start writing shorter and more concise posts, instead of longer posts that I rarely have time. Well… maybe this one will be long.

I keep checking the statistics for the site and see that the page that most people visit is the Ghetto Prom Pictures which is a quirk of search engine goodness (I show up rather high when you search for “Ghetto Prom Pictures” on Yahoo! evidently.) I guess I am expecting a massive influx to all of a sudden check out all the old content from the site. There are the regular visitors, of course… A few IT folks from Loyola checked out the site after I posted my own Student Homepage. Too bad they decided to stop having their spider index that site. I’m surprised a robots.txt isn’t up on that page. Then there are the people from Whitefish Bay High School who find this site amusing… It got blocked recently because I had an anonymous proxy setup that was allowing WFBHS students to access their MySpace profiles. I hear a few names thrown around from friends and family still at the school who find whatever I post here humorous… I could easily say a thing or two about the people who I hear are saying these things, but there would be no point in doing such. Who else checks out this site… Well, I know that people from Facebook visit this when searching for me. I wish I could get some more statistics about how many people really view my profile on Facebook. Then there are the people from Fark and Slashdot who see this address in my profile/posts. Not many of them stick around past the first page.

But by far the most common visitor to the site are search spiders. Yahoo!, MSN, Google, Technocrati, etc, etc. They seem to love me. The Google Feedreader pulls my RSS feed hourly so that people’s custom homepages are up to date.

Oh well… more to come…

Bayh/Feingold 2008 - My Dream Team

January 2nd, 2006 at 2:02 am, 3 years ago

I have been musing about who I would most like to see run for president in 2008, and two names keep coming up:
Senator Evan Bayh (Indiana)
with Senator Russ Feingold (Wisconsin) as the VP Candidate

Lets do some electoral politics:
With Feingold you get a good amount of the midwest (Wisconsin,Minnesota,Iowa are going to lean heavy dem with him on the ticket) along with New Hampshire… Bayh gets you Indiana and a fighting chance in Ohio and Flordia… Hmm…

As for the rest of the field-

Another interesting figure would be Governor Mark Warner of Virginia. You have a southerner who plays well with independents and moderate Republicans. Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico and Senator Hilliary Clinton of New York remind me too much of Kerry: playing direct to what they think the moderates want to hear. The problem with Hillary is that there is a sect of the country that will work as hard as possible to NOT get her elected. Someone on Meet the Press said yesterday joked “she is the best fundraiser the republicans have.” Do we really want Republicans as passionate against a candidate as we were against Bush?

Oh well, it’s fun to muse… I’m still pushing for Feingold in the primaries, but rationally a Bayh/Feingold ticket would be interesting…
