Holy Toledo! 20 Million for Loyola

December 9th, 2005 at 1:29 pm, 3 years ago

Loyola University Chicago announced today that they received $20 million dollars from two sources: MacNeal Health Foundation and Joan Los Hank, Loyola alumna, and William J. Hank, Loyola trustee.

The money is to be spent on the new (as in a full major) School of Education and Nursing.

Father Garanzini is an amazing fundraiser.

Google Transit

GoogleBlog is reporting a new feature that they developed that will allow you to find the best public transit route in Portland. (Link) I sent their team an email begging them to expand to include the CTA/RTA so I don’t have to use the RTA’s Trip Planner any more.

Google links to Yahoo, oh, and RSS in Gmail

December 9th, 2005 at 10:51 am, 3 years ago

As previously reported on digg, Google has launched an RSS reader in Gmail (Googleblog Announcement.) Now you can see your favorite blog’s RSS feed in your Gmail interface.

Now any site can give you information about this update. But I saw something amusing…

In their official blog entry, Google links to a Yahoo Ask! page (see: Ripoff of The Straight Dope.) Of course, this isn’t the only link to the crew at Yahoo on the Official Google Blog. They also link direct to the Official Yahoo Search Blog and even the MSN Search Blog. Of course, after Google did this the other two blogs started linking back to Google and to each other (MSN linked to the other two just recently.)

This isn’t the only olive branch Google has extended in the past. BetaNews is reporting that Google has fixed a new Vulnerability in Internet Explorer that put Google Desktop at risk. What’s more, Microsoft thanked them for it.

Don’t read too far into this, I’m just bored.
