not crazy delicious

I went to see Brokeback Mountain at the theater (more about that later) and when I went to the concession stand I saw something I wasn’t totally expected. Mr. Pibb in the fountain and a bag of cherry twizzlers. Evidently the combo is Crazy Delicious. Now I understand that twizzlers are not red vines, but they are damn close. So as I sat down to watch a movie about gay cowboys I opened the bag of twizzlers and started on my Mr. Pibb. Let me tell you, it’s definitely not crazy delicious. In fact, it isn’t even slightly delicious. The two items don’t compliment each other well. Now if I had gotten Mr. Pibb and say popcorn I think I would have enjoyed it. Mr. Pibb is tasty. But the cherry flavored liquorice just doesn’t go with it. Too much flavoring.

You know what is crazy delicious: Absolut Citron
Bah, I have not had a drop of alcohol since I got back from college…

Update: They tell me that twizzlers don’t taste like red vines… someday soon we will see… someday soon…..

Is it piracy if you can’t find it?

Alright, here is my dilemma:

I found a Music group that I am really interested in. The problem is simple: I can’t find their music anywhere. They are rather obscure to American audiences and iTunes doesn’t have it for legal download. Now I found it over a peer to peer system downloaded it. Is this wrong? I mean, I made a good faith effort to FIND the music legitimate ways. I really did!!! I even sent a request into Apple to include the music in their store. Yet I could be arrested and fined for that action… just doesn’t make sense. I don’t steal movies that are in theaters or that I have access to the DVD of. I’m sure there is a release of King Kong out there (actually, more like 5 separate releases as of this post) but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to go out and see the movie (one of these days) or at the very least watch the DVD.

And to what end does that go? A lot of times I just can’t get to my TV to watch a television show, especially if I am at college. If I miss a show, and they don’t offer an easy way for me to get (a good quality version) of it for 6 months to a year (even longer) on DVD, then is it really WRONG for me to download it? I don’t know that I think it is… Also, my computer plays HDTV-based rips much better than any TV I would have access to. So here is my proposal to FOX: Tell me who is advertising during the first 4 episodes of 24 and I promise I’ll spend 5-10 minutes looking into them and seeing if I want to buy anything from them. Unless it’s a car company, because I can’t afford a car…

A New Computer Case

December 24th, 2005 at 9:05 pm, 3 years ago

Well… I’m home… Got home about a week ago… (a week and a day, actually.) I got a new Chieftec Full Tower Aluminum Computer Case with Side Window. It is the black version, but there is a cover on the front panel so I don’t think I will replace the black faceplate on my DVD+RW drive. I paid $50 for the case without a power supply. I think it was worth it. My computer runs a bit louder (which will be interesting in college) but I should be able to dampen it down a bit. I have 3 more hard drive slots and 3 more full 5.25 inch drive bays to fill. Doubt I will fill the 5.25 inch ones, but the three 3.5 inch spaces may get filled up rather quickly with new hard drives. I have been splurging way too much on my computer, but I have been cautious with the price. My former case had a ton of padding on it to keep noise low, but the heat was way too high even with the massive amount of fans I had. The hard drives were running hot and I had 2 fans on them. This should clear things up a bit.

The side window is really cool. I only have one light inside of it (a blue fan LED on the graphics card) but that will be upgraded to 2 or three soon. I am thinking about going blue throughout the case, although a mix of say red and orange would look great. I need to clean up the cabling inside the case. Some plastic ties for the power supply cables and some rounded IDE cables should do the trick.

Free Chipotle, plus a basketball game

December 9th, 2005 at 1:40 pm, 3 years ago

The students at this school love Chipotle. I don’t know why… Perhaps because they are right next door. Or perhaps because they have damn good food. Whatever the reason, Chipotle loves to give free burritos right back to the students. For everything…. Blood drives, buying books, and hell, even showing up to an event may get you a burrito.

On Sunday the Loyola Ramblers will take on the Purdue Boilermakers in a non-conference match up. This is the only game of the year (that I have been made aware of) where students will have to pay anything to get in ($5). Of course, I’m nuts and just had to plunk down $5 for a ticket… and I don’t even like basketball.

Anyways, the first 500 people through the door get free Chipotle burritos (source) and at approximately $5 a burrito, I am basically seeing the basketball game for free. Kick ass.

Or could it be that Loyola’s Chairman, Michael Quinlan, the primary benefactor of the life sciences building whose wireless I am now typing on, is the former CEO of McDonald’s, the corporate owner of Chipotle. Nah….
