What makes these jeans so FCUKing expensive?

September 12th, 2005 at 1:41 am, 3 years ago

I saw a picture of a store called FCUK today and thought I would check it out. It turns out that it is one of those really trendy brands. But what I want to know is: Why in the hell would you pay $170 for a pair of jeans you could otherwise get at say Kohls for $15 on sale. Hell, I could embroider the fucking FCUK logo on them myself!

They have a store in Water Tower Place which is near Loyola’s Water Tower Campus (imagine that). I may have to stop by and check out what makes those pants worth $170. I should go up to a sales rep and ask for a pair to try on (I am like a 44, the biggest they have is a 36). See what type of looks I get.

The Jesuits and their Events

I went to a picnic today that was held after a major start of the year mass. It was better than the standard dinner flair… as good as hot dogs and hamburgers served under tents can be. It is kinda amazing how well the school makes things look when parent’s are around… the attention to detail. They really do know when to make things look bright and snazzy and when to let things go.

I shouldn’t act like it is dingy here. Quite the opposite, it is an extremely well kept campus and events are well put together. Yet it just seems sometimes like they are catering to parents a bit more than to the students. Whatever.

I am always amazed to walk around and see the Jesuits with their collars talking with students so casually. It is really amazing to watch, and hopefully some day I will have an opportunity to strike up a conversation with one of them. I’m sure there are great things that I could learn from them.

American Dad, Family Guy, and Football

September 12th, 2005 at 12:44 am, 3 years ago

I spent much of the day in front of the TV. Internet is out in my room and the people who fix it do not work during the weekends so I took my laptop (which I am on now) to the first floor next to the dorm’s big screen TV. It sucks being surrounded by so many damn Bears fans, but I guess that is Chicago for you. Brett Favre just blew it today.

One thing that surprised me about tonight’s TV schedule was the amazing quality of American Dad. This is something that I simply did not expect to see, as usually that show is lackluster at best. It was a very well put together episode and the team at Fox Television should be very proud. It is a totally different experience watching Family Guy and American Dad at a college campus as compared to say at home or on your computer. It just seems like a group activity!

The Amazing iPod Nano

September 9th, 2005 at 7:58 pm, 3 years ago

Alright. I am yet again at the Apple Store, for the first time since my return to the great city of Chicago. I am standing across from the table displaying the new iPod Nano.

The thing is impossibly small! It is thinner and of comparable weight to the iPod Shuffle but of course wider and slightly longer. I was hoping that they wouldn’t have them in stock and I wouldn’t be tempted to buy it, but alas…..

Something that has not been very well covered by Mac sites is the fact that Apple has hardly prepped their people for the release of this thing. Apple Corporate gave at least this staple store a huge shipment of the Nanos that came in last night, but none of the sales reps have really been briefed about anything more than the price. Their “training” and “education” about the product is limited to their hands-on experience with it.

A lot of people here seem confused about the product, especially with a lack of media in-store about the product. Minis are still being advertised as they were last week, and there is NOT ONE piece of lit about the nano. I said “Nano Tubes” and one of the reps laughed nervously as if he thought I was making a (bad) joke. Bah!

They did know that “accessories” are coming early next month. Some people asked about a dock and were told about the insert, but the reps did not know much about the insert and what that was all about.

I convinced at least a few people to get a nano while I was here, which promptly got me (yet again) the “You should really work here” comment… bah. Only thing I would have to figure out is how I would work after school lets out for the Christmas break.
