On Ann Coulter

On Ann Coulter:

The only reason this woman is successful is because she is controversial…. if she was not, nobody would buy her books or listen to her. Being crazy has been very good to her money wise, so of course she is going to keep doing it.

Lets be serious and rational for a moment: She isn’t hurting anybody and anyone she ‘attacks’ can write her off. In fact, those on the left almost become more popular because she ‘attacks’ them.

The same exact thing holds true with Bill O’. He intentionally psychs himself up for his shows because it has been good for him ratings wise. He is not a newsman, he is an actor playing to a crowd that likes to watch him act. He is entertainment and anyone who thinks otherwise is giving the people at Fox News/MSNBC/CNN WAY too much credit. If only ‘news’ sold, The News Hour on PBS (which is an great show) would have much better ratings.

The more attention ‘liberals’ give her, the better her book sells. The less attention she gets means she sells fewer books.

About Fox News Channel

People keep thinking that Fox News is some vast right-wing conspiracy. Fox News Channel was designed by Rupert Murdoch to fit the ‘conservative’ niche of TV news. Murcoch realized that ‘conservatives’ wanted to hear news slanted their way 24/7. He hired Roger Ailes knowing full well what he was getting himself into, and it is Ailes that really built the network. And the ratings have been wonderful.

People who see Fox News and/or MSNBC as more than entertainment are… misguided. If people just wanted ‘the news’ they would watch CNN Headline News (before they had Glenn Beck) and The News Hour on PBS. Even NBC Nightly News has ‘Making A Difference’ segments to close out the show, which are helpful and insightful but mostly just entertaining. People don’t just want ‘the news’, they want to be entertained, Fox News entertains some people. What else do you want? Really?

I’ve sorta moved to Twitter

I’ve neglected the blog over the past month. I have simply had no time to really put any effort into a post. What I have been messing around with is Twitter. It is easy to update on twitter and not have to write out something long that may never be seen by anyone.

My twitter URL is http://twitter.com/nickcatal

Why must all new phones have cameras?

October 30th, 2008 at 4:18 am, 42 months ago

I am looking at getting a new phone to replace my BlackBerry Pearl. I sorta want an iPhone, but I don’t want to a) Switch over to AT&T and… well… that is the primary reason.

I am looking for another phone and I am finding something unfortunately: You cannot buy a phone nowadays that doesn’t have a camera.

Many places will not allow you to have a cameraphone (Court Houses, some other event venues, etc) which means there are times when I would have to leave the phone elsewhere and basically be SOL if someone needs to get ahold of me.

You would think BlackBerry would release one of their new phones without a camera.

A liberal politician? President? Really? Cool

The way the polls are looking right now it appears that Barack Obama is going to win the election. No matter how many tricks they try to pull on election day I just don’t think McCain can pull this out. And with the ground game Obama has going on the election may already be won due to early/absentee voting.

Which brings up something I am, confused, about. Does this mean that things will get better?

See, my entire ‘adult’ life we have had a republican president and republican policies being applied. All I really know is Bush. I have no freaking idea what is going to happen in an Obama administration. It would be… totally new… to me.

This is going to be interesting.
